JUNETEENTH DAY?
Today is Juneteenth in the United States of America; a day set aside as a public
holiday in commemoration of the final liberation of slaves from their owners in Texas, USA, by Union troops.
The story goes that slavery was proclaimed abolished by Abraham Lincoln on January 1, 1863, setting all slaves free.
However, 2 years after the proclamation of end to slavery, slaves in Texas were unaware of it and continued to be under the yoke as their masters kept the information away from them.
It was not until the Union troops arrived 2 years later that they became aware and were set free.
The significance of this is that until cars and subsequently, telephones, and other modern modes of communication were invented and became publicly available; information was disseminated by trekking on foot and on horsebacks.
Communication from one point to another was slow and a challenge and would sometimes take months and years.
Looking back, the world has come a long way. Communication between points and peoples has become much easier.
Today, by email and through social media, you send a message and it's received instantly elsewhere. By phone, we call from the luxury of our homes and speak to one another in the other end of the world.
By radio and television you receive news and updates instantly.
But unfortunately, people are still living in conditions of slavery and ignorance and are being subjected to inhuman conditions by fellow humans in our societies. Illogical things that science has completely flattened and disproved with better knowledge are still being practiced as truths, and in most instances as spiritual, around us.
People are still using conspiracy theories to brainwash their follow humans to be in perpetual disbelief and ignorance; exploiting them in the process.
We need to un-enslave ourselves and the people who follow and believe in us by relying on credible information sources and scientific knowledge.
This is the surest way of being permanently liberated out of slavery.
As the US marks their public holiday of JUNTEENTH today, I salute their steadfastness on this and many more things the world has immensely benefitted from their Union including the spreading of democracy as the best form of government on earth.
Happy JUNETEENTH to our US friends.
