Thousands, if not millions, of years after he found himself on earth,
man did not know any difference between night and day, or weeks or months, and certainly years. Man lived day-to-day, month-to-month, and year-to-year without any consciousness of birthdays and without marking any events.
Not until the figures of 0 – 9, now used for arbitrary demarcations, were invented by man.
Then man began to put dates to our births, to our deaths, and the occurrence of other events.
These things called time and date are artificial inventions of modern man just to create uniformity of thoughts and actions amongst humans.
Time itself is more than an event; it is an illusion. It is an infinite event that never repeats itself. Everything about the occurrence of an event that we celebrate is man’s idea. It’s based on sentimental values we attach to the occurrence of things during the rotation of the universe and the interaction of the forces of nature.
So man have marked things, time and time over, that our brains have come to accustom and accept them as realities.
But the fact is, no two events can ever be the same. Any given time in the universe is an irreversible and unrepeatable occurrence separate from any in the past or any that will occur in the future. That is why, ‘had I known’, is a very vain thing to say.
The date of and the so-called anniversary of our births are two separate events in the illusion of time. But we feel and celebrate as if they are the same based on the arbitrary calibration of the figures invented by man.

All the sentimental dates of occurrence which we either celebrate or mourn, go to work or rest, are arbitrary figures based on a base value of those who assigned it after figures were invented.
As our birthdays are illusions, so is Christmas; so is the new year, and so are other special days such as Saturdays, even Sundays. Even the notorious often stated figures such as 666 or special occurring dates such as 12/12/12 are all but illusions. None of them affect the physical progressions of the illusions of time.
It is good we understand these things; that our dates of sentimental values be best utilised for resting or visiting friends, rather than huge celebrations which we burn out our life earnings or wealth for.
Lots of us are so much attached to figurative and arbitrary dates of occurrence of events and mark all of them as if nothing else mattered. All we are doing in such situations is, as I call it, ‘dating dates’; as a boy will date a girl or vice versa.
It is important we note that giving too many values to our sentimental dates is a huge wealth wasting venture. If we use ten days to plan for our birthdays, we have wasted at least 10 days of wealth creation and deep reflections.
When ‘dating dates,’ let’s be conscious of the things we lose as a result. Apart from our mental health, which resting helps, meeting new acquaintances, or sight-seeing, most times we come back worse off, to start from square one, with heart-rendings based on our sentimental indulgences
‘Dating dates’ is an expensive business foisted on us by the illusions of time and man’s invention of figures. But we have the willpower to prevent its regrettable consequences or at least minimize its impact on us.
Merry Christmas!
